Thriving in a Prickly Situation

I spotted this cluster of wildflowers while on a hike in Sedona this year. Wild daisies are one of my favorite flowers and finding these beauties along the trail stopped my in my tracks. At first, I just stopped to admire their beauty. I studied them, amazed by how full and lush this bunch of wildflowers existed while growing out of rocks. That always baffles me. How nature can somehow find a way to grow right up out of rocks without evidence of fertile topsoil. And then, something else occured to me as I stood there. This bunch of daisies had not only grown up in all its fullness while rooted in rocks, it also found itself growing amongst the thorns. And she's thriving! Like full, happy, healthy and growing - thriving. Dang!
I started to think about how often I wait until all circumstances are perfect before I expect growth in my life. The perfect light, soil, temperature all while in a weed free environment. Life is not like that though. It's messy and rocky and sometimes void of fertile soil. And yet. This bunch of wild daisies is proof that we can grow in the rocky and thorny mess. The only requirement is to show up and keep looking up. Day after day, show up. Show up when it's rocky. Show up when it's thorny. Show up when you can't find evidence of fertile soil anywhere.
This little bunch of flowers challenges me. It begs the question - What am I waiting for? The terrain is never going to be perfect. Just go and do the thing anyway. You never know. You may just turn out to be a beautiful, lush bunch of wildflowers amongst the thorns.
